Indian food makes my nose run…

If you can’t already tell, we are completely in love with Trader Joe’s “easy meals.” Well, maybe we are more than in love with them… we are obsessed. I’m starting to wonder if we need to buy stock in TJ’s so that we can actually bail out the economy with profits from frozen entrees.

To share more of the Trader Joe’s love, I decided to heat up the Chicken Mahayana frozen bowl that I bought last weekend. I’m a huge fan of the flash frozen goodness because it feels like I’m really getting a decent meal. It’s not like I packed a light turkey sandwich for lunch and I’ll need to make a snack run later – I have a full meal in one sitting.

After 8 minutes of heating up in the microwave (yes, 8), I would rate the chicken and rice dish as a 6 out of 10. I’ll admit, I was a little disappointed. I love a great chicken curry, and you could seriously smell the curry waft from the bowl (However, not as much as Dawn’s previous experience). As chicken curries go, this was more on the bland side and I really wanted a bit more kick. I also thought there could be more chicken in the bowl – at points it seemed like I was eating a bowl of rice with a side plate of chicken.

In TJ’s defense, they do make it very easy to have a great meal. It required little preparation and I was happy with the serving size.  So as much as I love Indian food because it tastes yummy, I would say that the TJ’s dish would suffice for a quick serving of curry in a hurry.

  1. You ladies are going to save me TONS of money on bad lunches. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve waited 5-8 minutes for a lunch, only to take it out of the microwave (after dutifully waiting 1-2 minutes for it to cool, of course) and be disgusted at the lack of taste or the overall lack of quality.

Ha, now I can just wait for you two to find this out! ;)

  2. I’m eating this meal today! I must say my box might have a double portion of kick, because my mouth is quite steamy at the moment. Or maybe Amy’s just tougher than I am when it comes to spicy curry!

I agree that it’s delicious although I am still a little nervous that this baby is going to burn through my insides…i mean, really? EIGHT MINUTES IN THE MICROWAVE?? That can’t be healthy!

  3. oh and ditto on the disappointment with lack of chicken. they shouldn’t even call it Chicken Curry … The box should read: Curry Sauce with Rice, Bamboo Shoots and Red Flaky Things – and then in small, italicized type underneath should say: also includes slivers of chicken.
